Responsive designs to facilitate easy customer registration & payment
Introduction
Each year thousands of contractors sign up to Alcumus SafeContractor to be able to work with hiring clients and prove their business credentials.
I was tasked with redesigning the experience. The new design had to improve the existing user experience and allow quick and painless registration. It also had to be fully responsive.

Challenge
The old SafeContractor registration portal was designed several years ago and was looking dated. More importantly it wasn’t fully responsive - a key requirement for contractors signing up whilst on a job - had poor accessibility and didn’t deliver a good user experience.
Research
- Spoke to users and stakeholders to fully understand the requirements
- Reviewed the current experience to identify blockers and red routes
- Carried out market and competitor research
- Mapped out the current user flows
- Used existing user research to create user personas
New designs
The new designs use a easy-to-use multi-step process rather than a long form. It enables users to answer questions easily and quickly move through the process
I created the designs using Figma and the Alcumus in-house design system, and worked with the development team to go through requirements, storypoint tickets, provide designs and assets also also be the point of call for any design issues.
The new design launched in May 2023 and has proved to be successful, with a 12% uptake in registrations and an overall quicker sign up process. Some examples of the designs are shown below, showing desktop, tablet and mobile versions:
